Okehampton Farm is a seventeen acre farm located at the foothills of Mt BawBaw in Victoria. Situated on the beautiful Tarago river we decided it would make a wonderful and unique place to live. We purchased the property in 2001 and began to carve the relatively bare farm, consisting of some large paddocks and a few old sheds, into the workable breeding and thoroughbred agistment property in which you see today.
My involvement with the thoroughbred racing 20 years ago became the start of many years of searching for what is now my foundation stock, predominately being Anglo Arabs. As a young girl I dreamed of owning a pure bred, and as the years went on I found myself leaning towards the derivatives. Using the Thoroughbred and Arab, finding so many things in both breeds that complemented each other, it was inevitable that I was to end up breeding Anglos.
I have a friend who had riding ponies of which, after a bit of research, I found they also had Arabian blood in their pedigrees. From there my interest in the Anglo Arabian extended to the Riding Pony. I now cross Anglos with Riding Ponies and with these combinations I have been able to get into the niche market of Galloways.
